Fanren Xianxia Companion — Product Review

A full from-0-to-1 product thinking case: reviewing my project through user needs, scenarios, pain points, solution, metrics and roadmap — proving not just "I built it", but "I know why and for whom".

1 · Product Overview

One-liner: an immersive memory-assist tool for readers of a 2,000+ chapter xianxia novel — when they "forgot what happened earlier", use it to instantly recall characters, plot, world-building.

Form: 5-page offline frontend app, zero framework, zero dependency, runs from a single folder.

Value prop: not replacing reading, but lowering the "memory cost" of long serialized fiction.

2 · User Personas

The Binge-reader · XiaoBei

Slow updates, long gaps — forgets everything when returning. Needs "one-tap recall" of the last arc.

The Fragmented Reader · ACha

Reads in fragments (commute, bedtime), confuses relationships. Needs "who is this" quick lookup.

The Deep Reader · AJiu

Wants to look up sects, techniques, geography. Needs a structured, searchable info base.

3 · Scenarios & Pain Points

Scenario 1 · Binge gap

Pain: after months away, main plot / side characters / foreshadowing all blur. Need: quickly regain the story thread.

Scenario 2 · Character confusion

Pain: hundreds of characters, complex relationships. Need: searchable, filterable character database.

Scenario 3 · Heavy world-building

Pain: realms, sects, geography, techniques form a huge system. Need: structured display + three-world map.

Scenario 4 · Immersion

Pain: pure text feels dry. Need: themed BGM and visual atmosphere.

4 · Solution (Feature Map)

1

Characters · "Life Cards"

Search, filter, keyboard nav, immersive scroll modal — solves "character confusion".

2

Plot · "Immortal Path"

Realm-orbit timeline + key events — solves "binge gap".

3

World-building · "Ascension Steps"

Realm ladder, law cards — solves "heavy system".

4

Map · Three Worlds

World switch, region hover — geography visualization.

5

Immersion

App-shell + iframe architecture for seamless BGM — solves "immersion".

5 · Metrics (hypothetical framework)

North Star

Recall success rate

Can a reader find what they're looking for on the first try (search hit × task completion).

Activation

Usage & retention

Weekly active, session length, character-page usage, map/timeline reach.

Experience

Immersion & stability

Seamless BGM rate, offline reliability, load time.

Growth

Content-driven

Character cards & map as shareable assets → natural virality.

6 · Roadmap

This review demonstrates: I can take an idea from user needs and decompose it into product solution, metrics and roadmap — the core way a product manager works.
